Dateline Resources Seeks to Overturn Court Order Halting Colosseum Gold Project
Dateline Resources (ASX:DTR) faces a significant hurdle in advancing its Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Project due to a court order. On 10 August 2026, a preliminary injunction halted operations at the site within the Mojave National Preserve in California. The injunction was granted following a lawsuit by the National Parks Conservation Association against the U.S. Government. Dateline is now working with the Department of Justice to appeal the decision and seek a stay on the injunction.
The feasibility study for the Colosseum project, released on 11 May 2026, outlined strong economic potential. The study estimated a pre-tax net present value of US$785 million and a pre-tax internal rate of return of 49.5%. The project is primarily focused on gold, with an estimated 573,000 ounces expected to be produced over a mine life of 10.4 years. The study assumed a base case gold price of US$4,200 per ounce, though this is not a current market price.
Dateline's financial position shows a market capitalization of about A$373 million as of 30 September 2026, but the company is not currently profitable. The project's funding approach involves a mix of project financing and existing cash reserves. The company's Managing Director, Stephen Baghdadi, expressed optimism about the appeal process, stating that strong evidence had been presented to the District Court.
The main risks to the project include legal uncertainties, project execution challenges, and market conditions. The outcome of the appeal will be crucial in determining the project's timeline and feasibility. Investors are advised to monitor court-related announcements from Dateline for further updates.
