Delta Pipeline Project Unveiled: New Corridor to Bring Major Changes
A proposed oil pipeline project in Alberta would bring significant changes to Delta's landscape, according to a recent staff report to council. The new pipeline, which would run from Alberta through southern British Columbia and terminate at Roberts Bank, is supported by the federal government but has raised concerns among local communities.
The 1,200-to-1,250 km pipeline would follow an existing route but take a south and west path from Hope through various municipalities before reaching Delta. The new corridor would be larger than the current Trans Mountain pipeline, with a diameter of 42 inches compared to 36 inches.
A new delivery terminal and marine facility would be constructed at Roberts Bank to store and offload oil. The combined facilities would cover approximately 260 hectares and include water retention ponds, power substations, tank manifold skids, and other infrastructure.
