Farmers in Moose Jaw are facing increased pressure ahead of harvest season due to rising diesel prices, which have jumped by nearly $0.30 per litre since last year.

Nick Cornea, a local farmer, noted that his operation typically purchases fuel in bulk to secure lower prices, but the recent increase has still resulted in significant costs.

'Just with how unstable the Middle East is and these world oil prices and now canola prices, it is skyrocketing more than most people think,' Cornea said. 'We're going to be probably closer to that $1.20 to $1.30 a litre for bulk farm fuel, which is a significant amount.'

The increase in diesel prices is being driven by geopolitical tensions affecting global oil markets, according to Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis.
