Diesel Prices Soar Past $7 Per Gallon, Threatening Indiana Farmers and Consumers

Indiana's farmers are facing a tough harvest season due to record-breaking diesel prices. According to AAA, the state hit its highest recorded diesel price average at $6.53 per gallon on Friday.

The current prices in central Indiana have some stations selling diesel for over $7 per gallon, as seen at one Shell station in Lebanon where it was priced at $7.19 per gallon.

Corn and soybean farmers like Donnie Lawson are making hard decisions to turn a healthy harvest profit despite the high fuel costs. 'This is the toughest it's ever been in agriculture,' Lawson said.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East is contributing to rising costs, which could lead to higher food prices for consumers in the US. Professor Michael Langemeier from Purdue University estimates that if corn and soybean prices hadn't recently gone up, there could have been a financial crisis.
