Rajasthan Jewellers Serve Snacks Over Gold Amid Sales Decline

Jewellery traders in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, held a symbolic protest to draw attention to their struggling gold sales. Instead of displaying ornaments, they served jhalmuri, a puffed rice snack, at Sarrafa Market.

The traders association claimed that record-high gold prices and weaker customer sentiment had led to a sharp decline in sales. They added that reduced footfall was making it harder to maintain normal business activity.

Amrit Soni, a trader, said many buyers were delaying jewellery purchases due to higher rates. He also stated that the trade had been affected for generations and that current market conditions were pushing businesses towards financial distress.

The traders association plans to present their concerns to the administration, seeking steps to support the sector and related jobs. They highlighted employment linked to the jewellery trade, saying artisans and labourers depended on steady demand for ornaments.
