Oil prices dropped by over 4% on Tuesday due to diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between the US and Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments, is expected to be reopened as part of these efforts.

Brent crude futures fell to $79.96 per barrel, marking the first time they've traded below $80 since July 13. This represents a decline of 4.5% from Monday's close. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures also dropped, trading at $76.33 per barrel and down 5% from their previous session.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that negotiations with Iran were ongoing, and Washington and Tehran could reach an agreement as early as Tuesday or Wednesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei clarified that talks conducted through Omani mediation focused on ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels.

Qatari diplomatic initiatives have also contributed to easing regional tensions and supply concerns. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari expressed hope for a quick resolution, stating that no agreement had yet been reached but emphasizing the importance of restoring international shipping through the Strait.
