DNV Approves HD Hyundai's Record-Breaking 271K LNG Carrier Design
DNV has issued an Approval in Principle certificate to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for its new liquefied natural gas carrier design, the 271K Twin Skeg LNG Carrier.
The vessel has a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters and is designed to maximize cargo carrying capability by optimizing vessel dimensions. It features five membrane-type cargo tanks and aims to provide enhanced cargo and operational flexibility compared to conventional LNG carriers.
The design incorporates a dual fuel propulsion system that complies with IMO NOx Tier III requirements, as well as an optimized hull form intended to improve propulsion performance. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' CEO described the design as pushing the boundaries of large-scale energy transport, combining efficiency and eco-friendliness.
