Doosan Invests $701.5 Million in Copper Clad Laminate Capacity

South Korean conglomerate Doosan Group has announced plans to invest $701.5 million in expanding its copper clad laminate (CCL) production capacity in South Korea and China by 2028.

The investment will be divided into two phases, with approximately $420 billion won ($296 million) allocated for domestic expansion of optical-module CCL lines and around $550 billion won ($383 million) for a new plant in China producing CCL for AI accelerators and network switches.

CCL is a key material used in printed circuit boards (PCBs), particularly in the production of high-end components such as AI accelerators, which require low signal loss at ultra-high speeds. Doosan's Electronics BG has secured a position in the Nvidia supply chain by purchasing circuit foil and producing accelerator-grade CCL.

The company's existing domestic CCL lines are already running above 100% utilisation, according to CEO Yoo Seung-woo, who stated that global customers recognize the technology and supply capacity Doosan has built over many years. The investment is aimed at meeting growing demand from AI data centers through 2028.
