Duke Energy Complex Plans Spark Controversy Along Yadkin River
A proposed multi-billion-dollar energy project along the Yadkin River has sparked debate in western Davidson County. The Davie-Davison Energy Complex, a joint venture between Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas, would place two natural gas-fired power plants in Davie County and a liquefied natural gas storage facility in Davidson County.
Inside Reeds United Methodist Church's fellowship hall, Duke Energy representatives answered questions from residents about the project. However, outside the church, protesters gathered to share concerns about potential impacts on air quality, water resources, and public health.
A grassroots group called Davidson & Davie for a Clean Future organized the protest, citing worries about the environmental and health effects of the project. The group is calling on Duke Energy to reconsider its plans.
