Duke Energy Unveils $10B+ Expansion Plans for Natural Gas Facilities

Duke Energy has announced plans to build two large natural gas power plants in Davie County, while a liquefied natural gas facility will be constructed in Davidson County.

The new facilities are expected to be multi-billion-dollar investments in each county. The power plants will have a combined capacity of 1,360 megawatts, according to company officials. Bill Norton, Duke Energy's communications manager, confirmed the plans and noted that they will provide 'multi-billion-dollar infrastructure investments' for both counties.

The LNG facility in Davidson County is set to be the largest ever constructed by Duke Energy. Ryan Smith, general manager of the Piedmont Natural Gas liquefied natural gas facility in Huntersville, provided insight into the process, explaining that impurities are removed from natural gas before it is vaporized and prepared for storage.
