Eemshaven LNG Terminal Delivers 8.2 Billion Cubic Meters to Czechia
The Eemshaven LNG terminal in the Netherlands has processed a significant amount of liquefied natural gas for Czechia since its opening in September 2022. Over four years, it handled 92 ships carrying gas destined for Czechia, delivering a total of 8.2 billion cubic meters of gas.
This is equivalent to around 14 months' worth of domestic gas consumption and more than four years of consumption by all Czech households. The imports have continued this year at the same pace as last year, despite the crisis in the Middle East.
According to ČEZ, most of the ships came from the United States, with no Russian gas being delivered through the terminal. In fact, the company's CEO, Daniel Beneš, stated that the war in the Middle East has significantly disrupted global gas trade, but liquefied natural gas for ČEZ continues to flow to Eemshaven without interruption.
ČEZ has leased capacity at the terminal until September next year and is currently negotiating an extension of the lease with the terminal operator. The company plans to use the onshore terminal in Stade, Germany, in the future as well.
