Eemshaven LNG Terminal Delivers Record-Breaking Gas to Czechia Amid Global Crisis
The Eemshaven LNG terminal in the Netherlands has been a crucial source of gas for Czechia since its operation began in September 2022. The terminal has handled a total of 92 ships carrying gas, delivering a whopping 8.2 billion cubic meters of gas to the country. This is equivalent to around 14 months' worth of domestic gas consumption and more than four years of consumption by all Czech households.
The deliveries have continued at the same pace this year as last year, despite the crisis in the Middle East. The energy company ČEZ told the Czech News Agency that most of the ships came from the United States and contained no Russian gas. In fact, so far this year alone, 20 ships chartered by ČEZ have arrived at the Dutch terminal, carrying a total of 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas.
The CEO of ČEZ, Daniel Beneš, stated that the LNG deliveries through the Eemshaven facility helped ensure an adequate gas supply for Czech households and industry even during the energy crisis. He also noted that their involvement in the terminal's operations has helped with planning and negotiating deliveries. According to David Viduna, ČEZ’s LNG manager, they actively negotiate with partners on the global market, which has paid off considerably this year.
