Egypt Delays Bread Price Review Amid Rising Wheat Costs

The Supply Ministry has postponed its review of bread prices in response to a request from bakeries and mills, citing rising production costs due to increased wheat prices.

The request was made for the second time in recent months, with industry representatives calling for a 15% increase in prices for tourist and fino bread categories.

Bakeries rely on free market flour supplies, which account for over 50% of production costs, and have seen transport and operating costs rise significantly, leading to significant losses.

The Supply Ministry will review price movements over the coming week before making a decision, with imported wheat reaching record prices of between LE16,600 and LE17,000 per ton this week.
