Michigan Gas Prices Fall for Second Week in a Row
Gas prices in Michigan have dropped for the second week in a row, averaging $4.69 per gallon as of September 28th, according to AAA-The Auto Club Group. This is a decrease of 24 cents from last week's average and 43 cents lower than a month ago.
The national average price of gasoline has also fallen, dropping 2 cents since last week to $4.42 per gallon, while diesel prices have decreased by 4 cents to $6.45 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
Motorists in Michigan are paying an average of $70 for a full 15-gallon tank, up from $51 last August but still significantly higher than the same time in 2025.
The decrease in gas prices is attributed to a major refinery successfully restarting operations and oil holding below $100 per barrel. However, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warns that 'the broader geopolitical situation remains fluid' and could push prices in either direction with little warning.
