El Niño Brings Sharp Temperatures Shift to US Regions
El Niño's impact on the US will be felt differently across regions this winter. While some areas can expect to see warmer temperatures, others are bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures. The West is expected to turn sharply colder, which could increase heating demand and potentially lead to higher natural gas prices.
According to the American Gas Association (AGA), the West will be the only region where natural gas heating bills rise this winter. In contrast, the Northeast can expect easing heating demand, which may not lead to a significant decrease in natural gas prices. California's heating degree days are projected to jump 59% compared to last year.
The Algonquin Citygate winter fixed prices have increased since July, which could further contribute to higher heating costs in the West. The AGA warns that the region will face higher bills due to El Niño's effects.
