Eni Secures Full Ownership of Sapukala Deepwater Block
Italy's Eni has secured full ownership of Indonesia's Sapukala Deepwater Block through the country's first Petroleum Bidding Round of 2026. The block, located in East Kalimantan, sits in water depths ranging from approximately 1,000 to 2,500 meters and is adjacent to existing Eni-operated acreage.
The location makes Sapukala strategically significant for Eni due to the potential for future discoveries to benefit from nearby infrastructure and development plans. The block is also close to the North Hub developments, which contain more than 14 trillion cubic feet of gas in place and around 800 million barrels of condensate.
The award further solidifies Eni's position in Indonesia, where it has been operating since 2001. The company currently holds a majority stake in Searah, a joint venture with Malaysia's Petronas that combines assets across Indonesia and Malaysia. Searah operates the future North Hub developments near Sapukala and targets sustainable production of over 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2028.
