ETFs Fuel Gold Buying Spree Amid Declining Prices
Gold ETFs have continued to defy market trends by adding gold even as prices slide. According to Bloomberg Automation, the latest purchases lifted net ETF gold buying for 2026 to 2.01 million ounces, worth approximately $598.9 million at the prior session's spot price.
The new inflow has pushed total known gold ETF holdings to 100.9 million ounces, marking a 2% increase this year and reaching its highest level since August 5, 2022.
Notably, the buying trend persists despite weakness in the underlying metal, with gold prices down 3.2% for the year at $4,182.31 in the Bloomberg update.
