EU Corn Imports Soar as Ukraine's Maritime Disruptions Bite
The European Union's corn imports are expected to surge in the upcoming season due to a smaller domestic crop. According to UkrAgroConsult, the EU will import around 25 million tons of corn in 2026/27, up from 19.3 million tons last season.
Ukraine traditionally accounts for about half of EU corn imports, but disruptions to maritime logistics are forcing cargoes to be redirected to land routes. The US is already gaining ground in the European market, supported by ample supplies and competitive prices.
In July-August, the US accounted for over 40% of EU corn imports, overtaking Ukraine. Continued disruptions could shift an even larger share of demand toward US suppliers.
