EU Feed Makers Sound Alarm Over Drought and Ukraine Export Disruptions
The European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC) is sounding the alarm about potential disruptions to livestock feed supplies in the EU. The organization has called for an urgent contingency plan to safeguard essential feed materials due to concerns over drought, Ukrainian grain exports, and the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation.
FEFAC members, representing EU compound feed and premix manufacturers, warned that severe summer droughts, disruptions to Ukrainian feed grain supplies, and the upcoming regulation threaten the availability of fiber, energy, and protein for the 2026-27 marketing year. The cumulative impact of these pressures increases the risk of disruption of essential feed material supplies.
FEFAC President Nicolas Coudry-Mesny states that 'shortages and higher costs could undermine the viability of EU dairy, pork, and poultry production, add to food price inflation, and increase reliance on imports of products of animal origin.'
