Europe Weighs Strategic Reserve Release Amid Soaring Oil Prices
Oil and fuel prices have taken a hit as Europe considers releasing strategic reserves to ease rising costs. France has proposed that developed nations release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude, which would help alleviate pressure on fuel markets. The move comes as supply buffers have weakened.
Fuel markets are experiencing stress, particularly in the diesel market, due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries. The US has been urging European nations to release stockpiles to prevent a potential ban on diesel exports from the country, which is now the continent's top supplier.
Brent crude slipped below $100 a barrel, while European diesel dropped nearly 6% in value. France's President Emmanuel Macron plans to convene a meeting of G7 leaders to address rising fuel prices and a shortage in refined products worldwide.
