European Gas Prices Fall Amid Middle East Talks Progress

European gas prices have extended their decline, falling more than 4% to below €64 per megawatt-hour on Wednesday. This drop comes as a result of progress in Middle East talks easing fears of energy supply disruptions.

Pakistan reported significant progress in negotiations with Tehran aimed at ending the war, and Iran's and Oman's foreign ministers discussed plans for a temporary transit corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and a project to clear mines from the waterway. The US decision to return diplomats to the region has also alleviated concerns about further conflict escalation.

However, supply risks persist as the ongoing maritime blockade continues to impact physical LNG flows from the Persian Gulf, particularly affecting shipments from Qatar. Additionally, hot weather across Europe is driving up electricity demand for cooling and slowing seasonal gas storage injections.
