Europe's Natural Gas Prices Soar to Eight-Year High Amid Middle East Conflict
European natural gas prices have reached an eight-year high of €80.99/MWh, surpassing levels not seen since January 2023. The surge comes as escalating attacks in the Middle East continue to disrupt liquefied natural gas shipments, driving up costs ahead of the winter heating season. European natural gas futures rose by as much as 6.8% on Wednesday.
The price increase is a result of supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the region. The crisis is exacerbating the already tight market for liquefied natural gas, leading to higher costs for consumers.
