Farm Bureau Urges Trump to Suspend Highway Diesel Tax Amid Record Prices
The American Farm Bureau Federation is calling on President Donald Trump to provide relief from record-high diesel prices as farmers work through harvest.
Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall sent a letter to Trump Thursday asking the administration to take several steps, including temporarily suspending the federal highway diesel tax.
The national average price for on-highway diesel has climbed to $6.382 per gallon, while farm diesel prices in the heart of the Corn Belt are nearing $6 per gallon.
Diesel is essential throughout agricultural production, from operating combines and tractors to transporting crops, livestock, and farm inputs.
