Fed Cites Commodity Price Woes as Inflation Risk Lingers
Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh spoke at an annual monetary policy forum in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he highlighted rising commodity prices as a potential worry for inflation. Despite mentioning strains in certain sectors like agriculture and housing, Warsh maintained that broad financial conditions are not restrictive.
Warsh struck a hawkish tone, indicating that the Fed is monitoring commodity prices alongside other price trends to assess the inflation outlook. He noted that recent increases in overall commodity prices 'bear watching' and that the central bank needs to determine whether trends indicate upside inflation risks.
