Festive Season Fuels Consumer Spending in India
As India's festive season approaches, consumer-facing businesses are bracing for a boost in sales. The country's festive months see shoppers splurge on new cars, gold jewelry, clothes, and home appliances. Lenders also witness a surge in demand as EMI schemes make big purchases more accessible.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to benefit from this seasonal rush, thanks to its dominance of India's passenger vehicle market. The company's wide dealer network across small towns will help it tap into the festive buying that often takes place outside major metros. Lower GST rates on smaller cars may also give Maruti an extra push.
Kalyan Jewellers is another chain that stands to gain from the gold-buying ritual during Dhanteras and Diwali. The company has been expanding its showroom network and digital reach, which should help it capture the festive rush despite rising gold prices.
V-Mart Retail, a value retail chain selling clothes and daily-use items at affordable prices, is also expected to benefit from the festive season. Its customers are largely price-conscious, so any uptick in rural or semi-urban spending will quickly show up in its numbers. The company has been working on improving store profitability after a tough couple of years post-pandemic.
LG Electronics India and Bajaj Finance are also likely to see a boost from the festive season. LG's premium product launches ahead of the season, along with festive discounts from retailers, will help push volumes higher during this period. Bajaj Finance's EMI schemes allow people to afford big-ticket purchases, making it a key player in the festive market.
Festive demand doesn't guarantee stock performance, and each of these companies carries its own risks and challenges beyond the season.
