Ford and Smith Unite Behind Northern Shield Pipeline Push

Ontario and Alberta premiers pushed for the proposed Northern Shield pipeline in Calgary on September 28, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford offering a stronger financial commitment to the project.

The pipeline would carry crude oil from Hardisty, Alta., to Sarnia, Ont. along a 3,300-kilometre corridor. Ford said Ontario is ready to provide 'patient capital' to help get the project built, arguing that government support could generate a return while building critical infrastructure.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith echoed the push for speed, saying Ford has 'a pretty strong ambition to get that one done a lot faster than I might have expected.'
