FortisBC Gets Green Light for Phase 2 LNG Expansion on Tilbury Island
FortisBC has taken another step towards completing its Phase 2 expansion of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Tilbury Island in Delta. On September 21, the BC government issued an environmental assessment certificate for the project after considering a report from the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). The certificate includes 18 legally binding conditions that must be met before construction can begin.
The Phase 2 expansion will add a new LNG storage tank with a working volume of 142,400 cubic meters and equipment capable of producing up to 7,700 tonnes of LNG per day. This project is part of the Tilbury Phase 2 site, located on the northern portion of the Hopcott Road property.
The BC government's decision was made after reviewing input from First Nations, technical experts, and the public. The EAO conducted a single assessment for both provincial and federal governments, eliminating the need for separate assessments. However, the federal decision is still pending.
