France Cuts Wheat Export Forecast Amid Weather-Hit Maize Crop

France has reduced its forecast for soft wheat exports this season due to a weather-hit maize crop. The farm office, FranceAgriMer, cut its initial outlook of 7.0 million metric tons in July to 6.3 million tons for exports outside the European Union in 2026/27.

Within the EU, French soft wheat shipments were revised down to 7.1 million tons from a previous estimate of 7.4 million tons. Soft wheat stocks at the end of the season next June are projected at 3.01 million tons, down from 3.65 million tons previously.

The reduced forecasts for export demand were outweighed by a lower harvest estimate and a rise in expected wheat use in livestock feed. This is reflected in the smallest maize crop since the 1970s, following severe heat and drought this summer.
