G7 Leaders Announce Emergency Oil Release Amid Record-High Diesel Prices
The Group of Seven (G7) nations have agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in an effort to stabilize global energy markets. The move comes as prices for diesel fuel have hit record highs, with a national average price of $6.37 per gallon in the US. President Donald Trump announced the plan on social media, stating that the G7 will start by releasing substantial amounts of diesel immediately.
The release is intended to add liquidity to the market and bring down prices, according to French President Emmanuel Macron. The decision was made after a videoconference meeting between G7 leaders, with Macron chairing the discussion. Trump also participated in the call, discussing the need for action on rising fuel prices.
Some experts have expressed concerns that the emergency release could lead to long-term harm by depleting strategic reserves and leaving Europe vulnerable in case of future disruptions.
