GAIL Unveils ₹21,000 Crore Expansion Plan for Gas Pipelines, Petrochemicals, and Fertilizers

GAIL (India) Limited, India's state-owned natural gas major, has announced significant expansion plans across its key sectors. The company aims to strengthen national energy security while mitigating global geopolitical supply chain vulnerabilities.

The expansion includes the doubling of LPG transmission capacity in the Jamnagar-Loni pipeline from 3.25 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) to 6.5 MMTPA across its 1,427 km network. Regulatory approval has been secured for three additional LPG pipelines spanning approximately 1,775 kilometers.

GAIL also plans to invest ₹21,000 crore in the development of two large-scale gas-based fertilizer plants in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. This move aims to drive regional natural gas demand and strengthen food security.

The company has expanded its LNG sourcing capabilities by securing long-term charter agreements for nine LNG carriers, including five under existing contracts. Two new vessels have been added to the fleet: GAIL Bhuwan (180,000 m³ capacity) and Energy Fidelity (174,000 m³ capacity).
