Galilee Energy Shifts Focus to Shallow Oil at Zydeco Project
Galilee Energy Ltd., an Australian company, has announced a significant development in its Zydeco Oil & Gas Project in Louisiana. The project's original wellbore revealed five stacked shallow oil zones, which contain up to 422,600 barrels of crude oil.
The company has redesigned the sidetrack well to target these shallower formations, which are positioned directly above the deeper gas-condensate objectives. According to Managing Director Joseph Graham, the decision was made due to the superior economics of crude oil in the US Gulf Coast market.
The shallow oil zones, including the Borsum, Richie, Discorbis gravelli, First Het, and Homeseeker B sands, are estimated to contain a combined gross 3U Prospective Oil Resource. The company has confirmed that the deeper gas-condensate targets remain high-value assets but will be evaluated separately via a dedicated future well.
