The government of Ghana has identified reversing declining oil production and increasing gas supply for domestic consumption as key priorities for the upstream petroleum sector, according to Energy Minister Dr John Abdulai Jinapor.

In a social media post on August 11, Dr Jinapor revealed that the government is implementing policy, regulatory, and infrastructure interventions to restore investor confidence in the sector.

The goal is to make the industry more attractive for investment by reviewing Ghana's upstream legal and regulatory framework, according to Dr Jinapor.

He emphasized the importance of increasing gas supply for domestic consumption, particularly for power generation, to improve energy security and reduce dependence on imported natural gas and other energy products.
