Ghana Prioritizes Reserve Rebuilding Amid Weaker Current Account and Gold Export Pause
Ghana's central bank is prioritizing rebuilding its foreign exchange reserves in light of weaker current account and declining reserves, Governor Johnson Asiama said.
The pause in gold exports by state buyer GoldBod since August has exacerbated the situation, with reserves falling to 24.4 metric tons in June from 33 tons a year earlier.
Ghana's economy grew by 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026, down from 6.6% in the same period a year earlier, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
