Global Tensions Threaten to Reverse South Dakota Gas Price Downturn
South Dakota drivers are getting some relief at the pump as gasoline prices trend downward across the region. The slight dip comes after global oil markets went on a 'wild ride' due to geopolitical tensions, which pushed crude oil prices up sharply before they pulled back on news of potential diplomatic deals.
The volatility in global oil markets translated to a welcome drop of a few cents per gallon for families and commuters in western South Dakota. However, even with this week's minor break, filling up remains significantly more expensive than it was at this time last year.
According to GasBuddy, average gasoline prices in South Dakota fell 3.8 cents per gallon, averaging $3.94 today. Prices in the state are 30 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 96 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
