Gold and Silver Prices Drop Sharply in India
On October 6, gold and silver prices in India saw a significant drop. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold fell by ₹920 to ₹1.47 lakh per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver prices decreased by ₹3,176, bringing the cost of one kilogram to ₹2.21 lakh.
This decline follows a more substantial drop in September, where gold prices fell by ₹8,000 and silver by ₹17,000. On August 31, gold was priced at ₹1.56 lakh per 10 grams, but by September 30, it had dropped to ₹1.48 lakh. Similarly, silver prices fell from ₹2.37 lakh to ₹2.20 lakh per kilogram during the same period.
Experts believe that the volatility in gold and silver prices may continue due to several factors. The recent interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve has contributed to the fall in gold prices. However, geopolitical tensions, such as the US-Iran conflict, and economic uncertainty could potentially drive investors back to gold as a safe-haven asset.
Investors are advised to remain cautious as market conditions remain weak. A significant price drop could present a buying opportunity. Additionally, when purchasing gold, it is essential to buy certified gold bearing the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark and to cross-check the price and weight through reliable sources like the IBJA website.
