Gold and silver prices surged on November 4, 2026, ahead of the Dhanteras festival. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), 10 grams of 24-carat gold rose by ₹3,486 to reach ₹1.41 lakh, while silver climbed by ₹7,775 per kilogram to ₹1.84 lakh.
The price increase comes as demand for precious metals typically rises before Dhanteras, a key shopping day for gold and silver items. Gold has seen significant fluctuations this year, with prices up nearly ₹8,000 since December 31, 2025. In contrast, silver has dropped by about ₹46,000 per kilogram over the same period.
Commodity expert Ajay Kedia advised buyers to spread out their purchases rather than investing all at once. He recommended buying in stages over 15-20 days and considering a longer investment horizon of six months to one year.
Before making purchases, buyers should verify the purity of gold and silver. For gold, checking the BIS hallmark and comparing prices with IBJA rates is crucial. For silver, preliminary tests like the magnet, ice, smell, and cloth tests can help, but professional certification is advised.
