Gold and Silver Prices Steady Ahead of Festival Season in India
Gold and silver prices in India remained relatively stable on October 6, 2026, as the festival season of Durga Puja and Diwali approached. In major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata, 24-karat gold was priced at around ₹1,48,850 to ₹1,49,540 per 10 grams, while 22-karat gold ranged from ₹1,36,446 to ₹1,37,078 per 10 grams. Silver prices also showed minor variations, with rates in Delhi starting at ₹22,505 per 100 grams and going up to ₹22,594 per 100 grams in Chennai.
The prices of gold and silver in India are influenced by international spot bullion trends, USD/INR currency dynamics, and anticipatory retail demand ahead of peak festival shopping. Retail gold purchases attract a standard 3% GST on the value of the metal, plus a separate 5% GST on the jewellery making charges. Import duties and local transport surcharges also contribute to regional price variations across states.
Major jewellery retailers such as Joyalukkas and Malabar Gold & Diamonds maintained consistent pricing across most states, with 22-karat gold quoted at ₹13,675 per gram. Tanishq listed its 22-karat gold rate at ₹13,720 per gram, while 24-karat gold was priced at ₹14,917 per gram by Malabar and ₹14,967 per gram by Tanishq. Minor retail rate disparities across brands stem from store-level pricing structures, inventory acquisition costs, and regional logistics.
