Gold futures rose sharply on Monday in India's futures market, driven by strong spot demand and speculative buying. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for October delivery traded higher by Rs 676, or 0.44 per cent, at Rs 1,55,182 per 10 grams.

The rise in prices was attributed to fresh positions built up by participants on the back of firm spot demand. Analysts said that speculators created new positions, contributing to the increase in gold prices.

Globally, gold futures also increased, rising 0.40 per cent to USD 4,394.01 per ounce in New York.
