Gold Market Remains Active as Central Banks Increase Holdings
The gold market has remained active in 2026, driven by investment demand, central bank purchases, and continued interest in portfolio diversification.
According to the World Gold Council, total gold demand reached 1,269 tonnes in the second quarter of this year, bringing first-half demand to 2,522 tonnes. Central banks purchased a net 289 tonnes of gold during the second quarter.
In a survey by the World Gold Council, 89% of participating reserve managers said they expected global central bank gold holdings to increase over the following 12 months.
