Gold Prices Expected to Surge to $5,013 an Ounce Within a Year
The gold industry is anticipating a significant price surge over the next year. Delegates at the London Bullion Market Association's (LBMA) annual conference in Sorrento, Italy, predicted that gold could reach $5,013 per troy ounce within 12 months, up from its current price of $4,170. This forecast comes despite gold's 3% decline so far in 2024, driven by expectations of sustained high interest rates and geopolitical tensions like the Iran war. However, gold surged 64% in 2025, marking its largest annual increase since 1979, and hit a record high of $5,595 in January.
A year ago, conference delegates had expected gold to hit $4,980 by now, but the current forecast shows a more optimistic outlook. The LBMA poll also projected that silver prices would rise to $97 per ounce from the current $61, following a 14% drop this year after a 147% rally in 2025. Additionally, platinum is expected to climb to $1,914 from $1,706, while palladium is forecasted to increase to $1,415 from $1,174, despite both metals seeing declines of 17% and 28% respectively this year.
