Gold Prices Plummet as Iran Tensions Fuel Rate Hike Expectations
Gold prices have dropped to levels not seen since early August as geopolitical tensions involving Iran continue to fuel expectations of additional rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
The spot gold price is currently hovering around $4,272.50 per ounce, marking a decline that reflects sensitivity to U.S. interest-rate expectations.
Market participants appear to interpret the ongoing situation with Iran as adding to the likelihood of further monetary tightening by the Fed, which has already raised its benchmark rate to a 3.75%-4.00% range and projects at least one more hike this year.
