Gold Prices Rebound as Central Banks Accumulate, Supply Chain Transformation Unfolds
The precious metals complex has been impacted by hawkish central bank rhetoric, but beneath the surface-level price action in gold, a quieter transformation is underway.
Gold prices pulled back following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks at Jackson Hole, where he emphasized that inflation remains above the central bank's comfort zone and that policy easing won't be rushed. The metal has shed roughly 4.7 percent over the past five sessions, but it's still up 29 percent over the past year.
The World Gold Council is formalizing the supply chain that feeds the precious metals complex through initiatives such as signing memoranda of understanding aimed at bringing more transparency to artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
