Gold Prices Soar Amid Dollar Weakness, Investors Get Cautious

Gold prices surged approximately 10% in August, setting the stage for its largest monthly gain since January this year. This increase was largely triggered by U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent's announcement of a significant boost in long-term Treasury bond purchases.

The catalyst was the weakening of the U.S. dollar, which not only boosted gold prices but also Bitcoin. According to reports, demand for hard assets has intensified amid the continued erosion of the dollar's purchasing power.

However, this rally is different from the frenzy at the beginning of the year. Investors are no longer blindly buying call options; instead, they have shifted towards spread strategies and exotic options to bet on further gold price increases at a lower cost. Implied volatility remains below first-quarter levels, with some investors anticipating that gold prices will fluctuate within the range of $4,900 to $5,300.
