Gold Prices Stuck Near $4,400 Amid Inflation Concerns
The gold price has hovered around $4,400 per ounce as investors weigh the impact of US inflation data on Federal Reserve policy. The recent spot price for gold was approximately $4,397.50, while earlier in the session it traded at about $4,418.87 and futures at around $4,461.82.
The trend in gold prices reflects a tug-of-war between market forces. On one hand, a weaker US dollar and safe-haven bids support prices, while on the other hand, higher Treasury yields, oil prices, and Fed hikes weigh on them.
US producer prices rose by 0.4% in August from July and were up 5.4% year-on-year, with the energy price index rising by 4.2%. This has led to concerns about inflation and its potential impact on monetary policy.
