Gold Rebounds Amid US Fiscal Concerns and Inflation Fears
The price of gold has rebounded from its July lows to around $4,600/oz, fueled by renewed investment demand and growing concerns over the US fiscal outlook.
The US Treasury's decision to increase its purchases of longer-dated government debt, including a maximum size of buyback operations in the 10-to-30-year segment rising from $2bn to at least $4bn, has refocused attention on government borrowing and fiscal credibility.
Gold's resilience suggests that the rally is not simply a response to lower yields, but rather a reflection of concerns about currency debasement and inflation, which are driving investors towards gold as a store of value.
