Gold Remains Attractive Amid Rising Rates and Inflation Concerns
Nomi Prins recently spoke to Money Metals about the current market conditions and how they affect gold prices. She argued that despite the recent Fed rate hike, gold remains a compelling investment opportunity.
The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points on September 16, moving the federal funds target range to 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent. This move is largely driven by rising oil prices above $100 per barrel and the subsequent inflation concerns.
Prins pointed out that the Fed's ability to control inflation through interest rates is limited by its inability to produce commodities like oil. She noted that any decline in inflation would likely come from lower energy costs, not higher interest rates.
The gold market has been affected by the Iran conflict and high oil prices, but Prins believes it will eventually rebound. Central banks continue to accumulate gold as a reserve asset, diversification tool, and hedge against physical supply scarcity.
