Gold prices surged today, marking their largest single-day advance in five months. The metal cleared resistance at $4,200 and its 50-day moving average at $4,249 to reach an intraday high of $4,328.20.

The gain of $173.80, or 4.20%, is a significant boost for gold investors. Multiple catalysts contributed to the increase, but President Trump's statement about Iran was a primary driver.

Trump mentioned that Iran is in active discussions with Oman regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed arrangement would have Iran control ships entering the Strait via a northern route and Oman oversee vessels exiting through a southern route.

The agreement carries some credibility, as Iran has stated it's not engaged in direct talks with the US but is discussing the opening of the waterway with Oman.
