Gold Surges on Strait of Hormuz Reopening Hopes Amid Ongoing Geopolitical Tensions
Gold prices surged to their highest level in seven weeks on August 6 as investors reacted to growing optimism about negotiations over reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The precious metal rallied for a fourth consecutive trading session, with spot gold rising 0.5% to $4,265.22 per ounce and US gold futures gaining 0.5% to $4,324.60 per ounce.
The rally was supported by a weaker US dollar, lower Treasury yields, and expectations that progress in the Iran-Oman shipping talks could reduce disruptions in one of the world's most important oil transit routes.
Analysts pointed out that hopes for improved shipping through the Strait of Hormuz combined with easing inflation pressures boosted demand for gold. The situation remains uncertain, however, as military tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel continue to pose risks to maritime traffic.
