GoldBod Model Attracts Interest from Seven African Countries
The Ghana Gold Board's (GoldBod) innovative approach to gold governance has caught the attention of seven African countries, which have sent delegations to study and learn from Ghana's model.
The delegations, representing Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sudan, and Namibia, have been visiting GoldBod over a 12-month period to explore how Ghana has formalized gold trading and centralized its gold market regulation.
The visits began in September 2025 with a delegation from Sierra Leone, which was followed by Mozambique in October 2025. The delegations have shown interest in various aspects of GoldBod's operations, including mineral revenue management, gold trading and certification, licensing and regulation, domestic gold purchasing, and artisanal and small-scale mining formalization.
Ghana's experience with GoldBod has been recognized as a potential blueprint for sustainable gold-sector reform in Africa. The country's approach has been described as 'a robust framework' that other countries can learn from.
