Gold's Bull Case Remains Intact Amid Geopolitical Tensions

Gold's recent pullback from record highs has sparked concerns about its long-term prospects, but Stuart O'Reilly, private wealth consultant at The Royal Mint, says the bull case remains intact. According to O'Reilly, gold's core drivers, including geopolitical tensions and sustained central bank buying since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, remain firmly in place.

Central banks are increasingly treating gold as a political hedge in uncertain times, O'Reilly noted. He emphasized that gold serves as a good diversifier for portfolios, protecting against shocks in bear markets without significantly impacting returns when the stock market is performing well.

O'Reilly also highlighted shifts in who's buying gold: more younger investors and women are turning to physical gold, alongside industry moves towards recycled gold and stronger provenance standards. He outlined gold's three core portfolio roles as diversification, liquidity, and long-term returns, and discussed vaulting options available to investors holding physical bullion.

Despite the recent pullback, O'Reilly believes that gold's fundamental drivers remain strong, making it an attractive addition to portfolios in uncertain times. As central banks continue to buy gold, its status as a safe-haven asset is reinforced.
